Atelier AnK was commissioned to work on a small, terraced house in Waltham Forest. The original house was already extended by the previous owners through the addition of a small rear extension. The new owners extended the house further by converting their loft into habitable space and extending it under permitted development rights. The kitchen was north facing, felt gloomy and was rather small. By infilling the unused space on the side of the house the kitchen would receive much needed light through the sloped glazed roof and would increase in size, providing more storage space for a young growing family. The new addition would also improve connection between the small rear garden and the house. We have also introduced a small new extension which would connect new side infill extension and existing rear extension and would serve as an in-between space connecting a garden and the dwelling, used for storing boots, shoes, coats, garden tools and outdoor kids’ toys.
